Why Linux, anyway?

An operating system should be a dependable tool. When your familiar system starts restricting you, slowing down or quietly collecting data, there is a proven, free alternative.

A real example from my workshop:
This entire website was built on a ThinkPad T400 from 2008. With 8 GB of RAM and Linux, the machine still runs perfectly smoothly today. I use it daily for programming, my bookkeeping, device repairs and even CAD/3D printing.
Linux proves that hardware does not need an expiry date.

How the migration works: step by step

Changing your operating system does not have to be radical. We proceed step by step, so you feel completely safe at every point:

Phase 1: the software level (safety first)

We leave your Windows system completely untouched. Instead, we analyse which programs you use every day and look for platform-independent alternatives. We install these open-source programs directly on Windows. The advantage: since the most important open-source programs are also available for Windows, you get used to your new tools step by step – all inside your familiar environment.

Phase 2: the safety net (dual boot)

Only once you feel at home with the new software do we install Linux alongside Windows on your computer. Every time you switch on, you decide which system starts. That gives maximum safety: no data risk, no stress.

Phase 3: the personal decision

Only when your Windows system is gathering dust because you simply no longer need it do we remove it for good. Or you decide to stay in phase 2 permanently – entirely flexible and at your own pace.

Security & system stability

The way Linux is built quietly prevents many typical computer problems from arising in the first place:

High resistance to malware: Since most malicious software is written for Windows, it simply does not run on Linux. An additional system-level virus scanner is usually unnecessary in everyday use.
No forced updates: Updates run in the background and never force sudden restarts in the middle of your work. You stay in control of when and which updates are applied.
Consistent privacy: There is no obligation to create an online account with the manufacturer and no built-in advertising in the start menu. Your data stays locally on your device.

Simplicity in everyday use

Linux looks and works close to what you already know. Switching requires no programming knowledge – everyday tasks stay essentially the same:

Internet & mail:	Web browsers such as Firefox or Chromium and mail programs such as Thunderbird work exactly as you are used to.
Office work:	LibreOffice opens, edits and saves Word and Excel documents reliably in most cases and creates PDF files directly on request.
Peripherals & devices:	Most printers, scanners and external drives are recognised the moment you plug them in – no manual driver hunt.
Look & feel:	Classic menus, a taskbar and a familiar folder structure make orientation quick.

Linux: the invisible backbone of the world

Linux stopped being a niche solution long ago – it is the undisputed foundation of our digital infrastructure, the invisible engine in the background:

Supercomputers & space travel: 100 % of the world's 500 fastest supercomputers run Linux. Even the ISS laptops and NASA's Mars helicopter rely on its stability.
Home networks: The FRITZ!Box routers widespread in Germany run on a Linux core (FRITZ!OS), as do professional router systems.
Smartphones & TVs: Google's Android (over 70 % market share) is built directly on a Linux kernel. Most smart TVs (e.g. LG or Samsung) also use Linux as their stable foundation.
Automotive: Whether Tesla, Mercedes or Toyota – modern on-board computers run on a Linux base today.

Why is the private market not there yet, even though Linux effectively carries the world?
